    Although dystopian literature has never been one of my particular areas of study, I believe that your analysis is very spot on. Consider the term and its opposite: if utopian literature deals with an ideal society, dystopian literature deals with a corrupted society. Both utopian and dystopian literature tend to deal with the future, but occasionally they will deal with the imagined past (anything to do with Atlantis, for instance).

    I am happy you have found the genre to your liking! 1984 and Fahrenheit 451 are excellent examples. For young adults, The Hunger Games series provides a slightly softer presentation of this typically dark genre.
